Indigestion.

Indigestion is also known as 'dyspepsia' which is a Greek term indicating indigestion or difficulty in digestion. It is a vague term very often quoted to describe any.discomfort in the upper abdomen brought on by overeating. Most people suffer from it in day to day life, and it is often no more than a sign of overindulgence. Very rarely it represents a serious problem.
Causes
The term 'indigestion' itself conveys that food is being digested with difficulty. The reasons for this are many, Common ones include:
Over-eating, eating repeatedly, eating too much of rich, fatty or spicy food, which can irritate the stomach lining.
Other causative factors are pregnancy and stress. Occasionally, indigestion is a symptom of some other problems like peptic ulcer, gall stones or hiatus hernia.
Signs & Symptoms
The symptoms occur immediately after eating the food and may last for a couple of hours. Depending on the severity, one can notice symptoms and signs.
Vague discomfort and stomachache are common. Sometimes one may feel 'bloated' and 'nauseous', Burping is another sign. Foul taste is an indicator of chronic indigestion.
Herbal Medicines
The occasional mild indigestion does not require treatment and will be automatically relieved in a couple of hours.
Lemon is the fruit of choice in indigestion. The juice of half a lemon should be added to a glass of 'Water, along with a bit of soda bicarb and stirred well. This should be taken in case of indigestion for instant relief.
Ginger is a well known home remedy in this condition. It stimulates the secretion of digestive juices so as to break down the heavy food.
Before eating a heavy meal, one should eat 2 or 3 small pieces of ginger, coated with a little bit of salt. This combination prevents indigestion even if one eats a bit more than usual.
Hing (Asafoetida) is one more dependable home remedy in indigestion. A pinch of hing powder and ghee should be added to some boiled rice and mixed well. This should be eaten before the regular meal, the daily usage of which ensures proper digestion and evacuation of bowels.
Ayurvedic Remedies
Shiva Kshara Pachana Churnam.
'Lavana Bhaskara Chumam '-3 gm of these powders well mixed in lukewarm water should be taken twice a day.
Hingvashataka Churnam in the same dosage with ghee may be used before a meal.
Arogya mishran 1 pill thrice a day.
Gasex (Himalaya Drugs Co.) 1 tab. thrice daily.
Ojus (Charak) 1 tab before meals and 1 tab after meals thrice daily.
Pancharishta 15ml dissolved in same amount of water twice daily after meals.
Do's & Don'ts
One should avoid all the factors stated as causative factors.
Certain eating rules should be followed.Do not eat and drink simultaneously.Do not eat in a hurry.Never eat to your stomach's full.Do not eat, when there is no appetite or as a recipe for boredom.
Above all, the golden rule is that you should put your heart and soul in the food while eating
