mumps

Mumps refers to an acute infection of the parotid gland near the ears characterized by swelling and other symptoms.
Causes
It is caused by a virus. It spreads through droplets by coughing, sneezing or using food or drink contaminated by the patient's saliva.
Signs & Symptoms
Fever, pain near the angle of the jaw and difficulty in opening the mouth is followed by swelling of one or both parotid glands. Inflammation of the testes, pancreas, ovaries and meninges may occur in some cases.
Herbal Medicines
Garlic-4-5 strings of garlic made into paste and taken twice with milk.
The juice of ginger one teaspoonful mixed with honey taken 2-3 times a day.
Black pepper ¼-½ taken with warm milk twice a day for 7-10 days.
Ayurvedic Remedies
Luxumi Vilas Ras is a drug of choice. 1 tab. 3 times a day for 7 to 10 days.
Daru Haridra is commonly used for this disease. The powder of it 1 tsf mixed with honey and ghee is applied on affected part preferably at bed time.
Do's & Don'ts
Patient should stop taking hot solid food.
Neck and head should be kept warm.
